Innovation and Sustainability
CoopeTarrazú is committed to innovation and sustainability in its quest for practical alternatives in areas such as coffee by-products, sustainable agriculture, efficiency and new energy alternatives.
We seek to implement innovative, efficient, high value-added and low environmental impact processes to achieve a balance between economic growth, social responsibility and environmental preservation.
CoopeTarrazú's Sustainability Policy
At CoopeTarrazú we firmly believe that economic development, social welfare and environmental protection must move forward together. Our sustainability policy guides each of our decisions, ensuring that our actions today build a better future for tomorrow's generations.
Through this policy we reaffirm our commitment to a coffee culture that honors the land, supports people and brings value to our country and the world.

Some Projects
We work in the conversion processes of coffee by-products.
We make the most of the coffee fruit
Delipulpa
Dried coffee pulp as a supplement for cattle can be supplemented up to 33% in the diet of fattening cattle.
Ethanol
It is a product of the extraction of the juice from the coffee buds, which is pressed to obtain a juice that is rich in sugars.
Fenix Shell
A flour created based on the best coffee, a product rich in antioxidants and with caffeine and complementary natural sugars.
Coffee Flour
Product with high fiber and protein value, used in confectionery, cereals, bakery, it is a product of high nutritional value and gluten free.
Anaerobic digestion
Prototype system to convert coffee waste into biogas and nutrients.
Mycorrhizae Project
Evaluation and reproduction of mycorrhizae to improve coffee production.
Biological Insecticide
Research initiated to combat cochineal mealybug in coffee.
ODS-COOP / Circular Economy
Two tools implemented to report sustainable actions.
Birdlife Monitoring at the CoopeTarrazú Coffee Farm
As part of CoopeTarrazú's commitment to sustainability and biodiversity protection, the first bird inventory was conducted at the coffee farm. This study confirms that the farm is not only a productive space, but also a living ecosystem that is home to a significant diversity of species.
In this section, you can consult the preliminary list of the 106 species identified and learn more about the project through the video, which explains the environmental value of birds as allies of coffee and natural balance.
Sustainable management of coffee by-products Project
We share the note made by the University of Stuttgart on the sustainable management of coffee by-products, an effort that Coopetarrazú has made together with this University, in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by coffee pulp.
We work with Institutions
The cooperative currently has a series of agreements with different national and international institutions and research centers: Universidad de Costa Rica, Universidad Estatal a Distancia, Instituto Nacional de Aprendizaje, University of Stuttgart, Centro Nacional de Innovaciones, Biotecnológicas and Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica.
These alliances have allowed us to work collaboratively in applied research to find innovative solutions that contribute to the development of the coffee producers associated with the cooperative and the community in general.
These are agronomic and sustainable products that seek to improve crop productivity for our associates and the community in general. They are mainly created to enrich the microbiological activity of soils and plant root systems.
Among the main benefits of the application of this type of biostimulant are the following:
- Improvement in the percentage and quality of germinated seeds.
- Effects on plant foliar development.
- Improved stem and root growth.
- Activation of defense mechanisms.
- Improved crop quality and productivity.
OUR PRODUCTS
Nemacillium
Bio-Degra
The product contains three groups of microorganisms that grow successively and symbiotically in the fermentation of the culture medium, generating substances of interest for the degradation of organic matter and for plants.
- Phototrophic bacteria.
- Yeast.
- Lactic bacteria.
Which together contribute to odor control and organic matter decomposition.
BIOFECUNDA
A culture rich in bacteria and yeasts, mainly intended to improve soils, the product aims to enrich the microbiological activity of soils by degrading organic matter and releasing substances that are easily assimilated by plants.
TRICHOFECUNDA POWDER
It is a biological product made from a high concentration of reproductive structures of the Trichoderma fungus to favor its establishment in the field, it works as a plant root improver and growth promoter. Due to its characteristics, it has a longer useful life, it facilitates its application and establishment in the soil, displacing pathogenic microorganisms and being an important defense mechanism for plants.
BIOFECUNDA PLUS
BioFecunda Plus is a culture of beneficial microorganisms enriched with the Trichoderma sp fungus, which enhances plant defense mechanisms against diseases and increases soil microbiological diversity. The product helps plants to be better prepared for stress conditions, in addition to helping better nutrient absorption.
