CoopeTarrazú completed the acquisition of the Frailes Supermarket, a strategic decision aimed at strengthening its retail operations and meeting the consumer needs of communities in the region.
The decision to purchase this business, which had previously been leased, was made unanimously by the Board of Directors in December 2025, following an analysis that took into account the business’s location, performance, and growth potential.
“It’s a business that allows us to meet the needs of our members in these communities. Most importantly, it’s an investment that is funded by the commercial division and does not draw on the coffee division’s resources,” said Randall Ureña, a member of the Board of Directors.
The funds for this investment come from Banco Popular, a financial institution that has been instrumental in helping the Cooperative carry out this and other projects.
“We conduct a comprehensive evaluation, reviewing financial statements, collateral, and details of the business activity we are going to finance. If we’ve reached this point, it’s because everything is in order and we’re able to benefit the community,” said Selenia Barrios of Banco Popular’s Corporate and Business Banking Division.

The property features a high-quality facility with approximately 1,200 square meters of floor space and is located on a commercially attractive site.
“During the 2024–2025 period, Frailes posted very strong financial results, accounting for 18% of total sales in the supermarket segment, which reaffirms that the decision made was the right one,” added Jazmín Rivera, General Manager of CoopeTarrazú.
This asset also strengthens the company's position when negotiating with suppliers, financial institutions, and its own partners.
