April and May: the ideal time to apply BioInsumos to coffee plants

April marks the start of a critical phase in coffee production, with flowering and the first rains; it is the ideal time to apply BioInsumos and strengthen the crop.

It’s the beginning of April, the coffee trees have just started to bloom, and our growers are asking us if this is a good time to apply BioInsumos to their coffee plants.

Our experts will walk you through all the details.

Why are April and May the ideal months for applying BioInsumos to coffee plants?

There are several reasons why we recommend using biological inputs on coffee plants in April and May:

  1. We’re already starting to notice moisture in the soil, as the rainy season is beginning. Moisture in the soil promotes the biological activity of microorganisms that are beneficial to plants.
  2. This provides the ideal conditions for microorganisms to colonize, reproduce, and better control the pathogens that inhabit the soil.
  3. In addition to April and May, the rainy months are a good time to apply these products, since the soil is moist. In fact, we recommend that growers apply BioInsumos three times a year, if possible.

What feedback have producers who use agricultural inputs on their coffee crops provided?

Feedback is extremely valuable to our advisory team because it allows us to assess the product’s effectiveness and conduct further research to improve our recommendations. Here are some of the positive comments our users have shared with us:

  1. Better root development in plants
  2. Healthier and more vigorous plants
  3. Reduction in pests and diseases
  4. Indirectly, a stronger plant also leads to increased productivity

It is very important to talk with the farmer about the crops they are growing, because this allows us to provide the best guidance to ensure that their farm remains healthy and productive.

How many times a year should BIoFecunda and TrichoFecunda be applied to coffee plants?

For coffee, we recommend two to three applications per winter cycle; however, this depends on each producer’s circumstances.

For other crops, such as melons and watermelons, up to three applications can be made per growing cycle, but since the cycles are short, this means applications are made every 15 or 22 days.

For avocado cultivation, three applications are recommended during the winter season.

As you can see, this varies depending on the crop. That’s why you should consult with your trusted agricultural engineer or ask our advisors at Coopetarrazú directly.

What is the application rate for each product?

The dose of BioInsumos should be applied per hectare.

For coffee, we recommend applying 600 grams of TrichoFecunda and 3 gallons of BioFecunda per hectare.

This dosage is applied in the same way for crops such as avocados, but for other crops such as pineapples and melons, the dosage must be adjusted.

That is why at BioInsumos de CoopeTarrazú, we always recommend that our growers seek advice from their trusted agricultural engineer or contact Casagri directly, where they can provide more detailed information on dosage based on the type of crop.
